The Canadian Pacific PHLOC (Parrot Heads Living On the Coast) has just celebrated one year of parrothood. This new non-profit Social Club is for pholks that appreciate the adventures and songs of the tropical troubadour, Jimmy Buffett, frosty Margaritas, a beach hammock, and the Island Lifestyle. Our club uniform is any style of tropical shirt, grass skirt, and flip flops, and our goal is to escape to a hedonistic tropical paradise if only for a few hours, an evening or day long event.

Known as Parrotheads, there are 205 PH Chapters in seven (7) countries around the world, which is governed by PHiP (Parrotheads in Paradise). There are 5 Clubs in Canada; Calgary, London, Hamilton, Toronto and the newest in B.C. This unique group of people has a credo to "Party With A Purpose" so charities are often the focus for Club activities. In 2004, PH Clubs contributed over 2.2 Million dollars and 404,690 volunteer hours to charitable organizations. These numbers are terrific, however, they do not include those efforts which are not measured in dollars and man-hours. Tons of can goods have been collected for local food banks, hundreds of thousands of "poptops" have been collected for Ronald McDonald Houses, and gallons of blood have been donated to save countless lives.

The Canadian Pacific PHLOC closed 2005 with a total membership of 54 ...24 of those being OOT (Out Of Town) memberships. We have members from as far away as Orlando-Florida, Lakewood-Maine, Oakville-Ontario, Columbus -Ohio, the Sunshine Coast and all points across Vancouver Island. We are always looking to expand our PHLOC and our 2006 membership drive is now on! If you or anyone you know would like to join the PHun, please fill out an "Application for Phun" on the "Join Us" page of this site.

This past year (2005) our PHLOC donated a total of $2,419.00 to a variety of Charities:

  • 13 Winter Coats to Union Gospel Mission (2005 Winter Coat Drive)
  • $1,605 to the Lion's Club Children's Charity (24 Hour Relay)
  • $ 189 to Cops For Cancer - Ucluelet (Ukee Days)
  • $ 125 to the PHIN FUND (PARROT HEADS IN NEED) - Hurricane Katrina Relief
  • $ 500 to Ronald McDonald House BC

In addition, our PHLOC donated a total of 90 hours to community and charitable events. This was a start, but we are hoping we can do a lot better this year. If you are involved with any charitable organization and need the help of our PHLOC, please let us know so we can get involved.

Kudos must go to the eight PHLOC members in Ucluelet. They had a terrific year taking home the blue ribbon for the best dressed (Tiki) water station at the Edge To Edge Marathon from Tofino to Ucluelet. The same group also took first place honors for their float in the Ukee Days parade. Way to go Ucluelet!

So whether holding a food drive while enjoying a Poker Run or collecting winter coats for the homeless at our Pub Night, there will always be a worthy cause to "Party With A Purpose". Parrott Heads are truly known as "Angels In Tropical Shirts". Whatever the Social Event or Charity, for Parrotheads, PHUN is always first and foremost!
